Silicon metal is a gray and shiny semiconductor also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon. Produced by reducing quartzite with carbon in electric arc furnaces, it is available in multiple purity grades classified by their iron (Fe), aluminum (Al) and calcium (Ca) content.

The most widely used grade in aluminum alloy production. Silicon 553 improves the mechanical properties of aluminum — increasing strength while reducing weight in die-casting and casting applications.

A high-quality additive for non-ferrous alloys produced by smelting quartz and coke in electric arc furnaces. Silicon 441 is preferred when slightly higher purity is required.
