Metallic silicon, also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, is a non-metallic element with a blue-gray, metallic appearance. It is hard and brittle. The classification of metallic silicon is based on the content of impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium. Grades such as 553, 441, 411, 421, 3303, 2202, and 1101 are commonly used.
