Graphite Shaft & Rotors

High-density graphite components for aluminum degassing units. Superior resistance to molten metal, thermal shock and corrosion — precision machined to your drawings.

Product Overview

Precision Graphite Components for Aluminum Purification

Graphite shafts and rotors are critical components in aluminum degassing systems. AL-LINX supplies these components manufactured from specialty graphite — valued for its high mechanical strength, excellent thermal resistance, low porosity and superior anti-abrasion properties.

Every component is machined strictly in accordance with customer drawings, with high concentricity tolerances to prevent mechanical vibration and premature wear. Special surface treatments are available including impregnation, proprietary carbon coating and partial strengthening.

The Process

How Graphite Degassing Works

During aluminum smelting, hydrogen dissolves in the molten metal through chemical reactions with atmospheric moisture. Excess hydrogen causes porosity defects in cast products. Degassing removes it before casting.

01

Inert Gas Injection

Nitrogen or argon gas is injected through the rotating graphite rotor-shaft system into the molten aluminum.

02

Bubble Dispersion

The rotor breaks the gas into fine bubbles, maximizing surface area contact with the melt.

03

Hydrogen Capture

Hydrogen atoms diffuse into the fine gas bubbles due to partial pressure differences.

04

Degassed Metal

Clean, low-hydrogen aluminum is ready for casting, producing parts with minimal porosity and superior mechanical properties.

Material Properties

Why Specialty Graphite Outperforms

Mechanical Strength High tensile and compressive strength withstands the stresses of continuous rotation in molten metal.
Thermal Resistance Retains structural integrity at operating temperatures and resists thermal shock from rapid temperature changes.
Corrosion Resistance Exceptional resistance to molten aluminum, chlorine, nitrogen and argon atmospheres used in degassing.
Low Porosity Dense graphite matrix minimizes gas penetration, extending service life and preventing contamination of the melt.
Anti-Abrasion Resists wear from abrasive particles in molten metal, maintaining rotor geometry over extended campaigns.
Machinability Machined to tight tolerances from customer drawings. High concentricity prevents mechanical damage during operation.
Special Treatments

Surface Treatments for Extended Service Life

Impregnation

Fills pores and seals the graphite surface to prevent gas and liquid penetration. Significantly extends service life and reduces operating costs.

Proprietary Carbon Coating

Applied post-impregnation, our carbon coating provides an additional layer of heat and corrosion resistance — enhancing performance in the most aggressive environments.

Partial Strengthening

Reinforcement applied to high-wear areas (rotor tips, shaft-rotor joints) to maximize lifespan cost-effectively without treating the entire component.
